Thursday 26th June 08 - The Humber Foul Mouth at The Square, Springbank, Hull
The Humber Foul Mouth Presents Poetry is Dead and Open Mic ...
|
Poetry Is Dead is the debut show from Hull poets Joe Hakim and
Mike Watts.
Tonight is your chance to see them perform at The Humber Foul Mouth ahead of
their first appearance at The Camden Fringe in August this year.
Taking performance poetry by the throat, this show is an unflinching observation of
life in the twenty-first century, an acerbic happy slap in the face of spoken word.
|
|
|
Tackling themes ranging from boy-racers to pet rats to gambling addiction,
Poetry Is Dead is premier league poetry from the streets of Hull.
Raw and uncompromising, this show pulls no punches with its sometimes shocking observations.
Joe Hakim is the winner of Shortfuse's Poetry Idol 10 and is currently
signed to Apples and Snakes as part of their Incubate programme.
|
|
Joe is appearing at Latitude Festival next month, sharing the bill with
John Hegley, Polar Bear and Luke Wright.
Always a resounding hit with his audience, Mike Watts is a rising star on the
spoken word circuit, and has already secured feature slots at nights such as
Spoonful of Poison at Whitechapel's Rhythm Factory by word of mouth reputation alone.
|
|
Supported by Amanda Lowe, who plays dulcimer by day but by night constructs crude
verse to tease and scandalise her audience and Jane Foster, delivering urban poetry
with equal sprinklings of wit and grit. She reaches the parts ...
Anyone wishing to showcase their spoken word at this event is welcome to sign up for
the open mic session during the evening.
