Grassroots Festival - Saturday 28th/ Sunday 29th August
|
Grassroots, Hull’s fourth annual free festival is set to go, and will feature a dazzling line up of
world music, dance and art in two city parks during August bank holiday weekend.
Grassroots 2004 kicks off in Queens Gardens from 12 noon on Saturday 28th August starring
the Mad Professor Live Dub Show featuring artists from Ariwa Sounds, the UK’s own
most successful reggae label.

Expect a heavy bass electronic 2000 style rastafari spiritual dub sound supported by Full Flava
with some very special guests.
Sunday 29th in Pearson Park (12 noon til 6 pm) will feature a feast of live music on the main stage
from traditional East Riding folk to infectious Kurdish dance and Japanese didges.
There will be breakdancing, bodypopping and DJs in the Full Flava marquee with 8 mile style
rap battles, live graffiti art from the Vapour Festival 2004 and the Funkywormhole Sound System.

This year the Lamp is hosting an outdoor music cafe in the rose garden, with an
acoustic stage playing summer sounds.

Grassroots has now firmly established itself as a key event in the city's calendar.
Hull's fourth annual free festival of music, art and dance will once again feature a
dazzling line up of world music, dance and art during August bank holiday weekend.
Grassroots 2004 kicks off in Queens Gardens from 12 noon on Saturday 28th August

on the 18th of July. The charity was the RNIB who work to improve the lives of the blind and partially sighted.
My sister Charlotte is blind in one eye so this worthy cause struck a particular chord with me.

This year I returned to that ever so laaaarrrrgggggeeee festival. Some call it gluttony, some
Glastonbury. Arriving a day early meant the ground was dry when I put up tent.
Rain, then wind, then sun, then rain. Sun, heavy rain, then it pissed it down
again..........another washout at Glasto, surely not?

I'd been praying that the rain would hold off for this very special event at Queens Gardens.
Luckily it did for most of the day, and with bands from as far afield as Zimbabwe and Afghanistan,
we all ended up dancing our little socks off..
The day was organised by Chris Smith at the Warren centre, and hats off to
him for putting on a great event
