My first impressions of Awash With AntleR as my slightly beer-stained notes allow from Wednesday 26th March at Adelphi. Do with them what you will... These girls have a mad penchant for taffeta, nylon clad feet and vintage headgear. There's something rather inviting about them. Reminds me of a Miss Marple novel with debutantes frippery and grandiose settings. Look she has a doo-hickey wired to that box and now she turns percussionist with a stamp of her feet.

Oh yes P.J. Harvey with trio vocals. Quirky, a little ramshackle but endearing, charming, like the upper sixth doing music appreciation at Mallory Towers. I bet they have super costume parties and outings.

One I expect will forever have her head buried in a book, a dreamer but with hidden talents not yet fully understood. Another, - a seamstress- making all their clothes on a Singer sewing machine, the third, the leader of the band, will most probably have some peculiar dietary requirement and be carrying a secret that she daren't share a word of. Reminds me of that film with Kate Winslett when she revels and rebels in Morocco, Hideous Kinky that's the one. The music has strains of something more exotic...not so much Pina Coladas in tall glasses, but weathered Bedouins carrying of young languid maidens to plush cushion filled tents.

Now they move like mad harpies on stage reminiscent of Bjork and Ms. Bush but these are easy comparisons when popular music is bereft of a multitude of female artists.

Bats For Lashes someone says beside me, I'm none the wiser but have an image of a fabulous Halloween gown complete with little sequin bats making the eyelids droop. I see a bodhran, that's two in as many months, and hear strings, in the form of violin, sitting playfully alongside keys. Later outings saw notes and sound pouring forth from rustic tin milk jugs and a much more coherent set that thrilled and spilled of the stage. There's no desire to look cool be cool follw trends just an urgency a basic desire to create. If necessity is the mother of invention, then I believe that Awash With AntleR are each her daughter.

	Scouting for girls delivered a belting performance last Friday, it is safe to say their a 2008 success story and continue to deliver top class performances to fans.
