Yorkshire & Humber Green Party commend Menwith hunger striker
On Saturday local Greens gave overwhelming support to the recent protest of peace
campaigner Peter Pollard.
At the AGM of the Yorkshire and Humber Green Party, Regional Coordinator
Eamonn Ward said, 'We commend Peter's protest. For one whole week he has
gone without food with only water as his nourishment.
'He has put himself through deliberate hardship to tell people about
Menwith Hill base being involved in American Missile Defense.
This system will not make anyone safer - quite the opposite.
Missile Defense is an escalation, it means more bases on foreign soil,
it's a symbol of a new cold war and Britain should have nothing to do with it.
But once again Labour is following America's wishes - and with no discussion.
'Our hearts go out to the Czech people, too, who are overwhelmingly against a base in their own country. Contrary to their wishes their government too is caving in to American pressure. Well done Peter for the solidarity he has shown with the hunger strikers there.'
Peter Pollard ended his hunger strike at 12 noon on Saturday 21st June after a week since the previous Saturday fasting and camping near Menwith Hill.
About noon, a message from Peter read 'Hi everyone. Thank you for your support. your texts were vital in keeping my spirits up. PS. Just about to tuck into a bowl of veg soup and bread.'
