Greens stand for civil liberties in Haltemprice and Howden by-election campaign - July 10th
|
...The Green Party has decided to stand - someone has to stand up for real civil liberties....
Greens DON'T agree with David Davis on civil liberties, because he doesn't vote for human rights.
David Davis thinks 28 days detention without charge is compatible with Magna Carta and habeas corpus. It isn't.
David Davis has backed all the 'Terrorism' legislation and 'public order' legislation prior to this, stripping away the political freedoms of British people.
The list goes on and on.
|
|
|
Greens argue that David Davis's vision of civil liberties is in a whole variety of ways far too narrow. It will be difficult for him to see this himself because he is a Tory politician and thoroughly immersed in ‘old' politics.
|
|
Old-style politics stems from the imperialist scramble for global resources.
This has to stop: no more wars for oil; no more government backing of unethical
Corporate power which is tearing the world apart; no more cosying up to the
United States (which is addicted to oil); no more scrabbling to find ‘scientific'
or technical fixes like genetic modification of crops (GM) instead of dealing with the real issues.
|
The Green Party has been working on coherent policies for social and
environmental justice since it was founded 35 years ago after the publication of
‘The Limits to Growth.' Greens know that the issues join up : ‘what goes around comes around'.
If the human species is to avoid appalling competition over resources very soon, we have to
choose a new kind of politics ... and fast.
GREENS ARE THE TRUE DEFENDERS OF JUSTICE AND CIVIL LIBERTIES
|
If people truly believe in what Davis called this by-election for, THEN THEY SHOULD VOTE FOR US!
To those who wish to vote for David Davis because of his stance on civil liberties, we say: Greens offer the real thing.
Dr Derek Wall, Green Party Principal Speaker said: "This by-election was supposed to be about civil liberties, but it's been called by a man - David Davis - who thinks it's okay for the government to lock you up for four weeks without even telling you what you're supposed to have done!...
|
|
"David Davis also believes that you should have no right to criticise the government within a mile of Parliament.
"He believes that if a child is being bullied for being gay, his school should not have a policy to protect him.
"And he believes that a judge should be allowed to kill you if he thinks you've committed a serious crime.
|
"So The Green Party had to stand. Someone had to stand up for civil liberties."
Local education and environment activist Shan Oakes is contesting the election for The Green Party. Shan has lived in Beverley, East Riding since 1975, where she was an English teacher, mother, and then an officer in the Local Education Authority of Humberside County Council working on the promotion of child welfare (Children Act 1989, then Special Educational Needs and Parent Partnership). In 1996 Shan worked for York City Council on Special Educational Needs Development and Community Safety. She believes passionately that inclusivity and fairness is the way forward, rather than authoritarian top-down control.
Shan is one of the founders of Voice International, an organisation working to promote sustainability through education and is Chair of the Trustees of Hull Development Education Centre (which promotes education for a just and sustainable world).
Leading Greens will be joining Shan on the campaign trail in the next few weeks, including Dr. Wall; human rights spokesperson, Peter Tatchell; target Parliamentary candidates Darren Johnson (London Assembly) and Cllr. Adrian Ramsay, and prospective MEP candidates Peter Cranie and Cllr. Rupert Read.
The Green Party is the only credible alternative to the Conservatives in this by-election.
So the choice is yours. For real green policies, VOTE GREEN!>

I was invited by Martin Deane Green Party Hull, to accompany him to the
Green Party Conference 2008, it's the end of the first day, so I am publishing
a photo diary of the day.
Good Luck to the Greens, hopefully they will deliver a new type of honest politics with
regard to the environment.
I still wish they would focus on exposing the truth about the 7/7 london Bombings
and not simply brush the event under the carpet. Anyway heres my pics.

VOTE! By Martin Deane, Green Party Candidate for Avenues Ward
|
|
"If you don't vote you are pissing on the graves of your ancestors."
Those aren't my words; they are the words of former Euro-MP for this area, Peter Crampton (Labour, in those days). The BBC wouldn't air his words then but maybe now they are more pressing than ever. Fewer people are voting - especially in Hull.
But YOU are losing out. If there were no

Local Elections - Martin Deane, Green Party Candidate for Avenue Ward
|

We need people on Hull City Council, who have a global vision and not just a parochial one.
Yes we have to do the best for our area, but this should be as sustainable as possible for a world threatened by climate change and with the end of oil.
Nobody else is talking about this as a time of transistion. The Green Party is. The Green Party is right.
Vote for it.

In Reply to Charles Clarke Email- Your views on fighting terrorism By Sean Atkinson
|
|
Dear Mr Clarke,
I am terribly upset with laws you are trying and thankfully failing,
to enshrine. If you give in and remove our hard won freedoms then
those who oppose democracy will have won. In an ironic twist where
you try to bring order and peace, you will bring strangulation and
insurgence. Where you try to bring safety and security you will bring needless imprisonment and
suffering.

Current Affairs - ID Cards - A Goldrush For Some By Martin Fuller

David Blunkett's latest resignation has highlighted an aspect of government plans to introduce ID cards and create a data base to back them up. They will be worth a fortune to those who invest in the companies who win the contracts to have us all bar coded, logged and registered.
Blunkett invested and took a directorship in a company that specialises in DNA

In Reply to Charles Clarke Email- Your views on fighting terrorism By Paul Whitlow and B E Robinson
|

Dear Mr. Clarke.
Of course I think our laws should be updated when necessary, with due regard for civil liberties, after full debate in the House.
If people cannot be brought to trial because laws have not kept pace with modern technology, for example, the law must be updated. However, the creation of new offences should be undertaken with great care. Religious tolerance allows for criticism and has an

I am emailing you today to find out your views on the action the Government is proposing to take to challenge the new terrorist threats that face all of us.
Since the London bombings of 7 July, we all know that the UK faces a terrorist threat of a different level
of seriousness and complexity from anything Britain has faced before.
We are confronting extremists whose aims are to kill and

I happened upon your page devoted to the last election only yesterday and even though the time is past, felt moved to protest that possibly Lee Cassanell was being a tad of a particle of a sliver of a shadow of a teensy weensy bit unfair to me.
Most importantly, I am not a pensioner. That's really too awful.
