Michelle Dee Catches Up With Afterglow During Recording Sessions At Big Hand Studio In Hull
(2/2)
By Michelle Dee
|
(1/2),
(2/2).
|
So here we are in Big Hand Studio recording with Alan Jones (The Sorry Loves) explain to me a little about how the recording process works, what happens first?
Boba - Okay, so first of all I come in and put down the drum parts to a click track and a ghosting bass track. Then the other percussive elements are put in, the fillers and stuff.
|
|
Rucko - Then I come along and lay down the bass lines, synthesizer and lead guitar parts...
Joe - I do my bit on guitar the rhythm based stuff.
Will - Then I roll up and put down the vocal and Joe adds backing vocals.
|
|
That's what happens generally, but with some of the songs the lead guitar changes hands mid song more than once, so we have to think about that as well, also, as you know, Rucko does a bit of vocals too, so we might rearrange things it all depends on the song.
Rucko's adapted a pinch technique on Shotgun that he loves playing with, it's usually associated with hair metal, adding harmonics to the guitar sound and generating more rhythm. We decided to spend longer this time in the studio than the first release; we're looking at the songs more intensely, giving every line and note due care and attention to get it right. A bit of t.l.c. for our new stuff.
|
So what's next for the band?
As well as a handful of local slots including The Lamp and Durty Nellies we are playing
The Welly Club with The Author at Club NME July 5th then 30th August we play
Party In The Woods Festival in Sancton.
We'll be releasing the Double A Side move to quick / shotgun in the net few month.
In the meantime we'll continue to write and gig the new material and generally
push the band and the label.
|
|
|
We're enjoying the writing process more, it's more of a collaborative experience,
having matured and gained more knowledge about making music the ideas for songs
and sounds are coming from new unpredictable places.

Both of his parents are classical pianists, and his father is also a composer.

accomplished musician, though his own expertise lies not in the classical arena
but as a contemporary folk singer, guitarist and songwriter.
