Independents' Day 2008
By Del Abe Jones
|
Lately, not much to be proud of
And it gets worse every year
And if changes aren't made soon
It just might be too late, I fear.
We have those who lied to us
To take us to war and worse
To leave an American legacy
Of an everlasting curse.
We have those who don't mind
Sending our Troops off to fight
And then when those Vets come home
They don't want to do them right.
|
|
We lost more Heroes this past year
More than in any year gone past
And as each one passes and more die
We keep hoping, they will be the last.
We are spending, our Freedoms
In those foreign places like Iraq
And once we have let them go
It is so hard to get them back.
We have people in our government
Who don't seem to really care
What happens to us here at home
As much, as all those. over there.
|
|
We've left our borders open
To let illegals flood our land
As our kids pay for the others
Who ruin their education's plan.
We let our systems be abused
By all those who don't belong
As they take unfair advantage
Of what made our Country strong.
We have "all-American" companies
Committing treason to the "force"
Who made, and built them up
Just for, the bottom line, of course.
|
|
We have many other businesses
Who buy goods from overseas
Which are unsafe, or can poison us
Or give us, some deadly disease.
We have the so-called "news" we get
Controlled by a few select stations
Who tell us only what they want
To control our, "public relations".
We have the insurance companies
Who don't want to pay the claims
They would rather let a person die
So their high, bottom line remains.
|
|
We have the big oil producers
And the huge auto industry
Who don't want alternate fuels
Or to raise the minimum mpg.
We used to have the "middle class"
And most of us lived fairly well
Most the World looked up to us
Before we broke down and fell.
We have the rich getting richer
As the "middle class" will get poor
It seems no matter what they have
All they want is more and more.
|
|
We have, "The New World Order"
And we should all be terrified
That the elite want to rule us all
Once, all our freedoms are denied.
We have so many, "true" believers
Who will blindly, follow behind
All, afraid to think for themselves
Just like the blind, leading the blind.
We have Democrats and Republicans
But, they all seem, just the same
All of the bs, lies, and politics
Of, the same ol', same ol', game.
It's time we take our Country back
And make it what it used to be
A place, where our Constitution
Still rules, the Land of the Free.
We have our old two party system
Who think they have all the power
It's about time we prove them wrong
With the Independents' finest hour.

Poetry - A Little Ditty By Andrea Longstaff
|
|
I think in the sink
It's the only way to drink
The bars are too narrow and squat
The hole in the wall somehow knew it all
And next week I get myself shot
My head went to bed

Poetry - Goldilocks And The Three Bares By Amanda Lowe
|
|
Goldilocks had a problem with way too much fanny hair;
It was long and unruly and sported out everywhere,
Venturing southwards from the sides of her underwear.
Being naked with men was something she didn't dare.
She's gone to the beauty parlour to ask if they
Could neaten her pubes that were wild and astray.

Poetry - A Conversation with a Chav By Gary Johnson.
|
|
Does the pope wear a big hat?
Does a bird shit in the woods?
Was the earth once really flat?
Do Audbreys sell dodgy goods?
Why is there life on Bransholme
When there ain't no life on mars?
Why are pumps still called sandshoes
When there is no beach for miles?

Poetry - Black Dog By Laura Fry
|
|
My whole life has been plagued by this black dog
I found my prince after
So many frogs
But then I thought there must be something greater
Home grass is so much greener, I found out later
I was so wrong
I found myself a slave to sin and drink

Poetry - Come On You 'Ull By Mike Watts
|
|
Statistics claim my city sucks
And in 'Crap Towns' and other books
They say - poverty and slum have tied the knot
And we're all wild on drink and pot,
And teenage girls with STD's
Push their buggies in two's and three's,
Past feral gangs tooled-up and hooded

Poetry - Junction 19 By Beth Mcgann.
|
|
From under the table he can see half-shoes and a jacket.
Sometimes he feels grubby but can never seem to get clean. He is busy
twisting all his bad thoughts into little knots of paper. In the kitchen
someone is weighing things on the scales.
He lives in a house full of cupboards.

Poetry - Paranoid Conspiracy Theory Nursery Rhyme By Joe Hakim

Poetry - Wheel of Misfortune By Mike Watts

He went mad again
And blew his brick
Like the brainless prick
He's turning out to be,
It's the roulette you see,
Her tight little gash
Keeps swallowing cash

Poetry - the end-of-waiting room By Beth Mcgann.
|
|
i don't really give a fuck about anything.
does it show?
i must be belly-white by now,
running my finger around the edges of my cell.
i make geometry.
when the dirt comes it holds my palms together and forces little code-words out of the pores.
no mathematics.

Poetry - Rock, Paper, Scissors and You and Me By Holly Roach
|
|
I'm rock and you're scissors
And I'll bludgeon you to death with boredom
Once again tonight.
I'm paper and you're rock,
I'll smother you too tight
That you can't break free.
I'm paper and you're scissors,

Poetry - Somewhere in Mind By Mike Watts
|
|
This place has a crystal river
A shimmering snake of colour
Drizzling through a landscape
Of emerald and sapphire,
Framed and hung the thousand times
That I've closed my eyes
To see it.
